Πριν από 50 χρόνια ένα συγκρότημα από το Λονδίνο έκανε την πρώτη εμφάνισή του επί σκηνής. Ήταν οι Rolling Stones και δεν θα αργούσαν να γράψουν μουσική ιστορία. Εκείνο το καλοκαιρινό βράδυ έκαναν την εμφάνισή τους στο Marquee Club του Λονδίνου.

Από τότε έχουν γεμίσει εκατοντάδες στάδια και συναυλιακούς χώρους σε ολόκληρο τον κόσμο, με τους θαυμαστές τους να παραληρούν σε κάθε τους εμφάνιση.

Την Τρίτη τα μέλη του συγκροτήματος, ο Μικ Τζάγκερ, ο Κιθ Ρίτσαρντς, ο Ρον Γουντ και ο Τσάρλι Γουάτς θα γιορτάσουν την επέτειό τους με μια φωτογραφική έκθεση στο Λονδίνο, ενώ ετοιμάζονται για νέες εμφανίσεις. Οι ίδιοι δηλώνουν έκπληκτοι που το συγκρότημα παραμένει δυνατό. Ο Κιθ Ρίτσαρντς δήλωσε ότι η πιο δυσάρεστη στιγμή στην ιστορία του συγκροτήματος ήταν ο θάνατος το 1969 του Μπράιαν Τζόουνς.

Ήδη για τα 50 τους χρόνια, οι παππούδες της ροκ έχουν τυπώσει νέο λογότυπο (παραλλαγή του γνωστού λογότυπου με τη γλώσσα).

Η καριέρα του συγκροτήματος αποτελεί «μια απίστευτη περιπέτεια» δηλώνει ο Κιθ Ρίτσαρντς. Θεωρείται από πολλούς ως η μεγαλύτερη rock n' roll μπάντα στον κόσμο. Έχουν πουλήσει περισσότερα από 200 εκατομμύρια άλμπουμ παγκοσμίως. To Sticky Fingers του 1971 διαδέχθηκαν οκτώ άλμπουμ που έφτασαν στο Νο.1 στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες. Το 1989 οι Rolling Stones εντάχθηκαν στο αμερικάνικο Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, και το 2004 πήραν την τέταρτη θέση στους 100 μεγαλύτερους καλλιτέχνες όλων των εποχών του περιοδικού Rolling Stone.

Τραγούδια όπως τα Painted Black, Sympathy for the Devil, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, Angie, Brown Sugar και άλλα έχουν μείνει κλασικά στην ιστορία της ροκ μουσικής.
